"Bum Gallery" photo submission

Brian K. Wrote: Photo of a fine specimen from a Lake Superior tributary. It was the last day of the season and the water temp was 39F. Still slammed the shit out of my swung sculpin.... but let's not tell the indicator nymphing guys. After all, it's common knowledge that steelhead don't hit swung flies when the water drops below 42F, right?

BEK

Thanks Brian

Simms G3 Guide Bootfoot Wader

Simms G3 Guide Bootfoot Wader
Tom Larimer Larimer Outfitters

As a steelhead guide in the Northwest, I’m forced into the elements on a daily basis. In the winter, those elements can get down right nasty. While Gore-Tex technology has made waders ten times more comfortable than neoprene, they do have a problem... Cold feet. For this very reason, I’ve held onto my old Simms Extreme Boot Foot Neoprenes. Just for those really cold, wet days. Mostly because my feet get cold over a long winter day on the water. However, Simms has answered the prayers of every serious steelheader by offering the Muck Boot on any of their wader models. Now you can have the comfort of breathable waders with the warmth of boot foots. The boots are light, comfortable and rated at 20 below zero.

On a recent steelhead trip back to the Great Lakes, I fished a beautiful river on a cold, blustery day... Air temp: 25 Wind: 20 Water temp: 35 (This is nice weather according to my Midwest friends) With one pair of Simms Extreme socks, my feet stayed warm and comfortable all day long in my custom G3 boot foots. More so, my whole body seemed to stay warmer. If you’re a winter steelheader, stop praying and start fishing. Go boot foot.

Spey Page: Short Belly Spey Lines

Short Belly Spey Lines (50 to 60 foot weight forward head section)

Most casters will find these lines the most comfortable and versatile for a wide range of fishing applications. These lines perform at their optimum when all or most of the belly is out the rod tip prior to making the cast. If the conditions require a longer cast, the caster must shoot extra shooting line to achieve distances longer than the head length. So, if you’re fishing a line with a 50 foot belly or "head" and need to reach that boulder 60 feet out, 10 feet of shooting line will be shot into the cast during the forward stroke. [Read More]
