John Farrar

When we asked John Farrar his thoughts on steelhead fishing, his reply was simple, yet thoughtful. He said, " I love the Pacific Northwest, and I love fly fishing for rainbow trout... Steelhead epitomize the best of both. " Talking with John, his passion for all aspects of the sport is immediately obvious. That passion has stuck with him through twenty-seven years of professional guiding.

 

Following the fish through the season, John makes his living on many of the great Northwest rivers. December through April he guides the Skagit & Sauk. May through September finds him on the Cowlitz for summer-run steelhead and cutthroat trout and on the Yakima river for resident rainbow trout. In the Autumn, he migrates east to fish dry flies for the free rising steelhead of the Grande Ronde.

While John is a constant student of the game, he is also recognized as one of the finest instructors in the Northwest. No matter which river you fish with him, you’ll definitely walk away with an advanced education in finding Northwest steelhead or trout with the fly.
