Marty Sheppard

In a recent phone conversation with Marty Sheppard, we asked him what his greatest strength as a guide was. In true Marty form, he replied; "Having fun! When my guys are enjoying themselves, they fish better." We can attest to this because we often see Marty on the local rivers. It can be the coldest, windiest, wettest winter day, and Marty will come rowing down the river with a grin on his face. Oh ya, he's a true steelhead junkie.

While this may seem like a simple approach to the game, don't be fooled. He is a technician when it comes to finding steelhead on his rivers. Constantly changing his methods to match the conditions. His knowledge comes from experience. Growing up in Welches, Oregon, the Sandy River was the playground of his youth. Marty worked on the John Day & Grande Ronde for an outfitter in his early days of guiding. When the outfitter decided to sell, Marty saw the opportunity and went for it. He has quickly become one of the most respected outfitters in the region. This fact was not lost by the tackle manufactures. He is a pro-staff member for The Echo Rod Company, Airflo Fly lines and a Simms Ambassador.
