Dr. Slick Hook Files

A quick touch-up can keep a dull hook from costing you a fish. Dr. Slick Hook Files help restore hook points after contact with rocks, wood, or other structure. Keep one in your vest, pack, or boat kit, and check your point whenever a fly hangs up or bumps bottom.

Each two-sided file combines stainless steel construction with diamond-grit sharpening surfaces and a textured rubber grip. Sharpening grooves help guide the hook point, while flat surfaces let you work the sides.

Choose Your Size

• 4-inch — HFG4: Fine 600-grit and medium 300-grit surfaces. A compact choice for a vest or pack and lighter touch-ups.
• 6-inch — HFG6: Medium 300-grit and heavy 150-grit surfaces. A practical boat-kit option for larger hooks and more substantial sharpening.

When to Check Your Hook

• After ticking rocks while nymphing or swinging flies

Shop tip: Use light strokes and check the point often. Remove only enough material to restore the edge; replace hooks with badly bent, broken, or deeply damaged points.
