Echo Rod / Line Weight Recommendations

To allow someone to fish all day in all conditions requires rods that are light in the hand and well balanced. The new ECHO Full Spey rods are designed to allow a person to flick a Scandi cast off the rod tip and still crank out long casts with a Skagit head. As it turns out, 13'0" matches today’s modern lines and is the most versatile length for those that want to fish larger rivers where covering water is the key to success.

Action vs. Power Comparison

The Action vs. Power matrix is designed to help compare ECHO rod models and make it easier to find the rod that best matches your casting style.

On the chart, the vertical axis represents rod power, while the horizontal axis represents rod action. In simple terms, action is influenced more by the upper half of the rod, while power comes primarily from the lower half.

Action
Fast-action rods typically have softer tips relative to the rest of the blank and deliver a crisper, more rigid feel overall. They tend to perform best for anglers with a more aggressive casting stroke and strong stroke control. Medium-action rods are better suited to anglers with a smoother, more fluid stroke and generally offer a broader sweet spot across a wider range of casting styles. If you consistently throw tailing loops, your rod’s action may not be the best match for the way you cast.

Power
Power refers to how much resistance a rod has to flex under load. More powerful rods are stronger through the lower half, generate higher line speed, and are often better suited to turning over bigger setups and keeping larger fish under control. Lighter, less powerful rods lean more toward presentation, help protect finer tippet, and are often the better choice when fishing for selective or pressured fish.

Rod Care & Maintenance

To keep your ECHO gear performing the way it should, a little regular maintenance goes a long way.

After any day on saltwater, rinse all components thoroughly with warm fresh water. Pay close attention to the areas where the guides meet the blank, along with the metal parts of the reel seat. Keep sand and grit out of the ferrules whenever possible. From time to time, apply a few drops of reel oil or grease to the reel seat threads to keep everything turning smoothly. If needed, paraffin wax can also be used on the ferrules to help maintain a proper fit.

And one final note: do not use tape on the ferrules. Seriously.
