The Winston Microspey AIR 2 is Winston's next generation of rods designed for two-handed trout fishing. Built with the award-winning AIR 2 material platform, these rods offer lighter overall weight, faster recovery, better connection, and the smooth feel Winston is known for.
Designed specifically for trout Spey applications, the Microspey AIR 2 provides excellent feedback through the cast and swing. Whether you are adding movement to swung flies, covering water with soft hackles, skating caddis, or fishing small streamers, this series gives trout anglers increased line control and a more connected feel when fighting trout-sized fish.
Performance and Presentation
With lighter blank weight and improved graphite recovery, the Microspey AIR 2 is built for a wide range of two-handed trout casting techniques, including Snap T casts, touch-and-go casts, and Snake Rolls. The rods load smoothly, recover quickly, and provide the feel needed to present flies with confidence.
All-new Microspey tapers help improve presentation while still offering enough crispness on the forward cast. These rods work well with trout Spey lines in Skagit, Scandi, and traditional styles, making them versatile tools for fishing lighter leaders, sink tips, poly leaders, and swung-fly presentations.
Trout-Centric Design
The newly designed thin-diameter Microspey grip provides feedback through the casting stroke, helping reduce blown anchors and improve casting consistency. The longer 4" bottom grip gives anglers more hand-position options while maintaining a slimmer profile than a full-size Spey grip.
The Microspey AIR 2 is finished with a figured maple reel seat produced exclusively for Winston, nickel silver hardware, double downlocking rings, and trout-focused componentry. Each rod comes with a logo rod sock and premium graphite tube and is designed and handcrafted in Twin Bridges, Montana, USA.

Note: Microspey AIR 2 grain windows were developed primarily around trout-specific Skagit and Scandi lines from approximately 12' to 24' in head length. Grain preferences may vary by casting style, tip choice, and fishing application.
Model Notes
- 2 wt., 10'9": The lightest and shortest model in the series. A sweet Scandi caster that is also capable of fishing heavier Skagit heads and sink tips. A strong choice for small rivers, skating caddis, and soft hackles.
- 3 wt., 11'0": The do-it-all model for a wide range of trout Spey situations. Well suited for soft hackles, small streamers, longer casts, shorter casts, and stillwater indicator applications.
- 4 wt., 11'3": The most powerful model in the series. Built for bigger water, larger flies, more aggressive Skagit setups, and touch-and-go casting with longer lines.

The newly designed, ultra - thin diameter spey grip provides instant feedback through the casting stroke, resulting in fewer blown anchors, and more time shooting casts across the river. The new bottom grip is longer and provides anglers infinite ways to grip and control spey casts, while providing a slimmer profile compared to full size spey grips.
Finally, the Microspey AIR 2 features a new and beautiful burled maple reel seat, produced exclusively for Winston. The new reel seat utilizes double downlocking nickel silver rings and componentry for a timeless aesthetic.

MICROSPEY AIR 2 — 10’9” 2WT.
The 2wt is our shortest model that is a sweet Scandi caster yet is more than capable of launching heavier Skagit heads and sinking tips. This this is a perfect small-river rod, or a bigger river stick when skating caddis, or presenting soft hackles. We like a 210 grain Skagit or a 180 grain Scandi. Add 8-10’ sinking or poly leaders that ring in the 80-grain range.
MICROSPEY AIR 2 — 11’ 3WT.
The do-it-all member of the family. From flashy sculpins on the Missouri, to swinging tandem soft hackles of the West Branch of the Delaware, this 3wt is up for the task. Capable of both long and short casts, it also pairs well as a great indicator rod for stillwater applications. Line it with a 240 grain Skagit, or a 210 grain Scandi with 10’ of T-10 for sink tips.
MICROSPEY AIR 2 — 11’3” 4WT.
Built with extra-power for bigger casts and flies, the 11’3” 4wt is the perfect choice for big water fishing. This powerful rod is ready for aggressive Skagit heads yet will handle longer lines utilizing touch-and-go techniques for ultra- smooth performance. A 300 grain Skagit or 275 Scandi, paired with 10’-12’ tips, are a sweet match for this amazing rod.
